U.S. Manufacturing Exports to the EU by State in 2024

The EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) threatens American manufacturing jobs by imposing burdensome compliance costs throughout firms' "chain of activities". The map shows which states have the most at stake, measured by the dollar value of manufactured goods each state exported to the EU in 2024. Methodology: Export values are 2024 annual totals from the U.S. Census Bureau's International Trade API, measuring shipments from each state to the EU (27 member states). Sectors are grouped from 80 Harmonized System (HS) commodity chapters mapped to their NAICS manufacturing equivalents, covering the full range of NAICS 311–339. Petroleum & Coal is excluded because the relevant HS chapter bundles crude oil — an energy commodity, not a manufactured good — with refined products; U.S. energy exports to the EU are covered separately. The "Chemicals" sector includes pharmaceutical ingredient exports classified under organic chemistry codes (HS 29) rather than finished medicines (HS 30), which explains Indiana's outsized figure. Exports are attributed to the state of the exporting establishment, which may differ from where goods were produced.
